Magic carpets are vehicles of escape and fantasy, unconstrained by their riders’ country of origin, ethnicity or religion. These carpets, however, are anything but magic.
This series began with painting on “color reform” carpets that consist of carpet fragments stitched together and over-dyed. These carpets are now marketed as expensive items of home décor. The segmentation of the smaller test carpets allude to the arbitrary boundaries and borders that limit and threaten so many people’s lives. For those confined by them, even the clouds that float freely must feel as if they’ve become private property.
